Knowles Studio is the answer to a twenty-year dream. The gallery, studio and workshop areas were built to be flexible and interactive in order to connect and inspire individual artists and the community. Nestled amid old orchards, pine groves and fields, the lofty 1500 square-foot studio offers art exhibitions, lectures, classes, workshops, ongoing drawing sessions, special events and a private studio for independent artistic research. We participate regularly in the annual Art in the Woods Tour. Please come by, call or email if you have any questions.
Since 1981, Leigh Knowles Metteer has maintained a continuous exhibition schedule and gallery representation. Her etchings, lithographs, paintings and drawings are in collections all over the world. Her interests in the figure, landscape and allegory have produced works that solicit both quiet introspection and dynamic revelation. She embraces formats that range from 1-inch miniatures to 15-foot multi-panel prints. For a list of exhibitions and collections, see “Resume” below.
For over twenty years, Knowles has been teaching a variety of 2-D and 3-D media to all ages: from the enthusiasm of elementary schoolers, and the passion and stress of graduate-level students preparing for thesis exhibitions to a wide variety of adult learners reigniting creativity in their lives. Her approach to teaching is both classical and experimental, open and intuitive. She provides solid foundational skills while encouraging each student to discover and express individual qualities and interests. Many of Knowles students have gone on to work and teach in various art-related fields including fine arts, architecture, theatre design, graphic design, sculpture, landscape architecture, and more.
